St. Michael's Museum Association

Welcome to the new homesite of St. Michael's Museum, Genealogy Centre and Catholic Bookstore! A lot has changed at the museum over the years—so much that we thought that a new web design was suited. Much of the old content is preserved here, only presented in a newer, more appealing and user-friendly format. Have a look around and let us know what you think!

The St. Michael's Museum Association was founded in January of 1974 by a group of eight people. Originally located in an unused wing of St. Michael's Basilica, known as the Lady Chapel, the Museum initiated a project to restore St. Joseph's Villa, which was then located on the grounds of the Chatham High School. The building was moved, the exterior and interior were restored, and the building that has been a presbytery, a hospital, and a schoolhouse was reborn now as a museum dedicated to the Miramichi's Catholic heritage.
